VISUAL ESSAY AFTER AN ENCOUNTER, 2024
Collective exhibition curated by Alberto Arceo. With her work at this exhibition, Evgeniya Korotchenko explores the concept of entropy—a measure of disorder and randomness—through ceramic sculptures. The artist plays with deconstruction to find a point of resiliency in fragile textures, as structures can be deconstructed and reimagined. These works reflect the artist's process of coping with news from their home country Ukraine, where a full-scale war with Russia is ongoing.
The sculptures draw inspiration from abandoned and destroyed buildings, imagining frames not only literally but also as representations of cognitive biases and narrowed human vision. The artist primarily uses ceramics, custom-designed glazes, glass, and metals, along with found organic materials. By incorporating organic materials in high-temperature firing, Evgeniya introduces an element of uncertainty to the results.
The work often melts or falls apart in the kiln, yet the artist persists in working with these materials, demonstrating resilience and persistence. This process embodies the transformative power of randomness and reflects how humanity's creative spirit endures, always seeking to construct meaning from the ruins. As a part of the exhibition besides the sculptures, there are sounds of fireworks which for the artist no longer represent sounds of celebration when thinking about home

LIKE A BIRD, 2024
Like a Bird is a 5-minute video-documentation art project that captures the process of constructing a sculptural object and models of materials used for the sculpture. The sculpture piece is crafted from various found organic fibers and henequen and represents a nest by it’s shape. The artist uses techniques derived from adobe construction, a method originated independently in several parts of the world and historically employed in building homes in Pre-Colombian civilizations. The video documents the entire creation process, from the initial gathering of organic fibers to the final assembly of the nest-like structure.
Evgeniya Korotchenko, known for her burnt-out texturizing techniques in ceramics, emphasizes the enduring relevance of traditional materials and techniques in contemporary art. By integrating the adobe technique, which involves the use of sun-dried earth mixed with organic materials, Evgeniya Korotchenko connects traditional, known for centuries, construction methods and contemporary ceramic sculpture and bridges a connection between the ancient and the modern, the personal and the collective.
In Like a Bird project Evgeniya Korotchenko contemplates on her Ukrainian roots and her new home in Yucatan. This project is a reflection on how cultural roots shape individual and collective identities, inviting viewers to find their own associations with the concepts of home and heritage.

TIDES AND LULLABIES, 2024
Interactive art installation and dance performance directed by Erika Torres, costume design and scenography by Evgeniya Korotchenko. A journey from the warm embrace of the maternal womb to the first steps into the vast world, through interactions between people and choreographed objects.
The piece retains elements of stage performance and adopts performative principles more akin to an ecosystem, where each performer and object behaves as living organisms in harmony.
Audience members are encouraged to construct their own interpretation of the world presented from various spatial perspectives. The performers and objects do not adhere to a traditional audience-facing approach but coexist in a space designed to stimulate the senses with sound, movement, and visuality.
The piece pays tribute to the movement principles taught by Nancy Topf, fostering harmony, health, and a sense of weightlessness in dance. Acknowledging the significance of addressing early childhood creation with earnestness and exploration, this piece offers a unique experience that captivates both children and adults alike.

CAUSE AND EFFECT (TIDE), 2022
A sculptural installation. With the march of time, the initial structure gradually melts away, resulting in an unpredictable yet controlled deconstruction. The transformation process is a symbolic exploration of change and inevitability in life and relationship with self, others, and the whole world
